jack-o-lantern

We took advantage of Matt getting home from work a little early (5:45 pm - it's better than 10 or midnight like we are starting to get used to in the Wetzel household) to carve our pumpkin last night.  I feel like carving a pumpkin is a Halloween tradition every American kid should experience every year.  But I can't say I love doing it.  So I encouraged Willa to pick out a small pumpkin, and I drew a very simple face.  Despite my shortcuts, we had a good time. 

 Matt let Willa help him make the first cut, which she took very seriously

And then she had to wait patiently (big spoon in hand) while Matt cut off the lid.  I love this picture of her, she looks so grown up. 

Then they scooped out the seeds (which Willa also did with great care)

I think they traded spoons at least 5 times because Matt's spoon, somehow, always worked better

Here's our finished Jack-o-lantern.  Don't judge.  Willa happens to love it and gives it kisses whenever she walks by it.
